We're the fish and chip shop on Beerburrum Street, a short walk from the sand at Dicky Beach. Fish comes crumbed, battered or grilled. The menu tells you where every piece of seafood is from. And it all goes into rice bran oil.

Named after
a shipwreck.

Our name comes from the beach. The beach got its name from the SS Dicky, an iron steamer that came ashore here in 1893 and never really left.

    Built

    A 226-ton steamer with an iron hull.

  2. 18934 February

    Driven ashore

    Running from Rockhampton to Brisbane, she's caught in the tail of a cyclone and put onto the sand. All eight crew survive.

  3. AfterRefloated once

    Back on the beach

    They got her off the sand once. The sea put her straight back, and she was left where she lay.

  4. DecadesA local landmark

    A beach gets its name

    Generations climbed her, photographed her and took pieces of her home. The beach took her name.

  5. 2015Council works

    The exposed remains come out

    The rusted sections are removed for safety, with a crowd of photographers there to see her off.

  6. 2025Cyclone Alfred

    She surfaces again

    Big seas strip the beach back and she's uncovered once more. A wreck put ashore by a cyclone, found again by another.

The council's SS Dicky display is at Dicky Beach, and pieces of the wreck are on show at Bankfoot House.

The beach is patrolled by Dicky Beach Surf Life Saving Club. Swim between the flags.

There's a beachfront park with a playground and skate park. Made for a paper parcel.
